On Dec 13, 2018, Tamkang University received a visiting delegation from the South China University of Technology, headed by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Zhang Xichun. After arriving, the guests were invited to attend an open forum discussion chaired by the President of Tamkang University, Dr. Huan-Chao Keh, and attended by several senior TKU faculty and staff members, including the TKU Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Chii-Dong Ho, the TKU Vice President for International Affairs, Dr. Kao-Cheng Wang, the Dean of the College of Engineering, Dr. Hui-Huang Hsu, the Dean of International Affairs, Dr. Lucia Chen, the Chair of the Department of Architecture, Dr. Mi Fu-Kuo, and an associate professor from the same department, Dr. Huang Jui-mao.

Six years ago, the departments of architecture at TKU and the South China University of Technology established a collaborative partnership, and have engaged in close exchange and cooperation ever since. The main purpose of the SCUT visit was to expand relations from the department to the university level, and to formalize the new scope of cooperation by signing an official Memorandum of Understanding Agreement, which will lay the foundation for future academic collaboration and student exchange programs. The South China University of Technology is Tamkang University's 46th sister university from Mainland China, and its 211th sister university in all. Student exchange programs are set to begin between the two universities starting from the first semester of the 2019-2020 academic year.

During the forum discussion, President Huan-Chao Keh noted that the South China University of Technology is ranked among the top 300 universities in the world, and is a Mainland Chinese university that has forged a reputation for academic excellence. It's an honor, he said, for TKU to count SCUT among its partner universities.

Chairman Zhang Xichun, for his part, commended TKU for the various accomplishments it has achieved, and expressed his hope that the universities would continue to build on the firm partnership already forged by the departments of architecture, expanding this collaboration to include other areas and industries, such as robotics, the Internet, and general technological innovation.
