In order to raise safety awareness and accident prevention while promoting Tamkang University’s spirit of excellence, the policy of “Zero Accidents Zero Injuries” has become the objective of the school. This policy seeks out diversified methods of health and safety for both students and teachers. In promotion of this objective, the Office of Student Affairs and the Office of Military Education and Training are holding the “Planting the Seeds of Safety and Petals of Peace” event on March 25th and 26th. The event began at 12:30 on Tamkang Campus and was hosted by Dean of Student Affairs, Chih-en Ko, who officially began the ceremony. Also in attendance was Director of the Office of Military Education and Training, Kuo-liang Chen, Dean of the Office of Physical Education, Shu-feng Hsiao, Dean of the Office of General Affairs, Shiaw-shyan Luo, Dean of Financial Affairs, Jui-Chih Chen, Dean of the Office of Human Resources, Tung-wen Chen and a group of 6th graders invited to participate in the event.

The entire activity revolved around the Echinacea Purpurea also known as the Purple Cone Flower. This particular flower is special because of its ability to stimulate the immune system and its antiviral effects. Afterwards Chih-en Ko planted Cherry Blossoms in the front of the Chueh-sheng Memorial Building on behalf of the university. He stated, “This flower represents peace, health and safety.” The young kids seem to have already received an education on saying no to drugs. Chih-en Ko expressed his gratitude to the Office of Student Affairs, the Office of Military Education Training and all of the students for their participation in the day’s event. Afterwards the students enjoyed games themed around safety, health and the environment. A student from the Department of Chemistry, Wen-ling Chen, stated, “These different games are really a lot of fun! It’s obvious the organizers put a lot of attention into the details. I am definitely going to invite more classmates to come.”
