The E-Learning Exectuive Masters Program in Asian Studies Begins Third Year

In order to cultivate elite personnel for the areas in Latin America and around the Caribbean Sea , the alumni alliance has spent a great deal of effort in the direction of Asian research related to international affairs. As a result of their efforts, 2 years ago TKU was able to establish the newly designed, “E-learning Executive Masters Program in Asian Studies.” This is the first overseas e-learning executive masters program and has received a deep appreciation from the alumni alliance. The beginning of the third year of this program has gotten even more attention, attracting three new students to the program, including Minister of Foreign Affairs from Guatemala, Mayor from Tela City in Honduras and professor from sister school Universidad de Panama. On March 10th a tea party was held welcoming 20 new students for the start of the this year’s program while introducing the curriculum.

President Flora Chia-I Chang formally welcomed the 20 new students that are from 12 different countries during the enthusiastic opening ceremony for the long distance e-learning program. She mentioned that the numbers of students for this program is already increasing, indicating that the reputation of the course is beginning to gain momentum. She stated, “Tamkang University has a long history with developing an understanding Latin America. The Department of Spanish Language is 50 years old, giving the College of International Studies a very thorough and complete program. This program in addition to the connections developed by the alumni located throughout North, Central and South America, has created a bridge that will only continue to strengthen in the years to come.The Triple Objective Educational Program is continually being realized as Tamkang University steadily moves in the direction of becoming a university that is more information-oriented, future-oriented and internationally-oriented. One day the Three Circles and Five Principles system of TKU will become household terminology.”

Ambassador Yeh represented the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as he expressed his gratitude for the participation of the new students. The ambassador of Nicaragua, William M. Tapia, stated, “The 21st century has really been a time of profound development in Asia. It is crucial that all of the countries in the world begin to interact and have a deeper understanding with Asian culture and work together to utilize the opportunities within.”
