Anti Drinking and Driving Press Conference Takes Place in The Student Activity Center

In order to communicate the importance of responsible drinking to the young people, Tamkang University has collaborated with the New Taipei City government for a promotion focused on designated drivers and the dangers of drinking and driving. On Wednesday June 4th in the Student Activity Center on Tamsui Campus the “Designated Driver Press Conference” took place. In attendance was President Flora Chia-I Chang, Secretary from the Taiwan Beverage Alcohol Forum, Jessica Fu, Head of the Ministry of Communications Committee, Tai-sheng Xu, and New Taipei City Government Secretary, Yu-ning Hsu.

Dean of the Department of Transportation Management, Chi-chung Tao, expressed, “Every year we hold Transportation Management Week and this week we especially wanted to touch on the issue of traffic safety. We have connected with resources outside of the university to paint a clearer picture of inherent dangerous effects alcohol has involving driving.” Jessica Fu spoke on the importance of having a designated driver before engaging in outings with alcohol. President Chang shared her thoughts of drinking and driving and the effectiveness of recent safety promotions. Tai-sheng Zhong spoke on young social groups that promote taking preemptive steps to avoid drinking and driving. Yu-ning Hsu described the procedures and standard policies of drinking and driving prevention.

Third-year student of the Department of Transportation and Management, Zhen-yao Zhang, stated, “I’m happy to be able to participate in this event because I often see news related to accidents that are caused by drinking irresponsibly. Every time I see this type of news I feel so bad for the victims and their families, but It also makes me especially angry at the offenders. Yet the only thing I can do is remind myself to be responsible so that I won’t make the same mistakes.”
