2013 Annual Faculty Table Tennis Competition

The 2013 “Annual Faculty Junior College Table Tennis Competition” took place on November 29th and 30th in the Shao-mo Memorial Gymnasium. 730 faculty members from junior colleges all over the nation made up 91 different teams, that played 183 matches in this year’s competition. The opening ceremony began with speeches from the Ministry of Education’s Physical Education Director, Jow-fei Ho, Chairmen of the China Taiwan Olympic Committee, Thomas Tsai, Vice President of the Republic of China Sports Federation, Guang-fu Chen, and President of Tamkang University, Flora Chia-I Chang.

The heats were divided into teams, individual, older men, younger men, older women, younger women and senior officials. This year’s annual competition was especially honored to have Chairmen of the China Taiwan Olympic Committee, Thomas Tsai and the Ministry of Education’s Physical Education Director, Jow-fei How, to compete in the individuals heat. There were also 10 senior officials from 8 different junior colleges that competed in the this year’s annual table tennis competition. TKU’s Dean of Physical Education, Shu-fen Hsiao stated, “This year you can really feel the magnitude of the specialized instructors from the universities and government organizations. It’s excellent to be able to see so many years of experience face to face.”

Many policies have been developed through this annual table tennis competition. In 2006 it helped to create the “One on One Exercise Program” which decided that all members of the staff would participate in at least one exercise class of their choosing. Making exercise a part of daily life is sure to enhance the energy and capabilities of the staff and student body.
