The Winter Social Service Team Prepares to Ship Out

Tamkang University’s Social Service Team is once again preparing to ship off around the country to offer their services for the winter break. Over 500 participants gathered together for the “send off” ceremony on January 20th. For the ceremony they made a short film titled, “Because I have you,” which is the theme for this winter’s social service groups. The full title of the theme sounds like songlyrics, “Because I have you, I will never be lonely; because I have you, serving has a meaning; because I have you society can be changed; because I have you, the world is a warmer place.”

This winter the Social Service team will head to every place in Taiwan. Among the groups the Health Service Team has been continually cooperating with Ping Dong to assist them for flood prevention for the past 5 years. There is also a group that will be heading to Thailand for the first time to teach Chinese Language in the mid and northern region of the country. Also the Department of Japanese Language and the College of Science have created the “Bright Light Science Group” that will participate in social services for the first time. 27 different teams will be carrying these services all across the nation and overseas to display the spirit of Tamkang University.

Fourth year student from the Department of Educational Technology, Yi-rong Su, stated, “This is my first time going to Thailand for social services. It is a completely new and exciting experience. I don’t really know what to expect, but I hope to spread the beauty of Chinese culture. I think this experience will also give me a much wider international view.” Third year student from the Department of International Business Management, Leafy, stated,“We have spent four months on preparation for this project. I really want to thank all of my classmates and older and brother sisters in the Guidance Section for making this possible. This really will be an experience I will cherish for my entire life.”
